A Wedding Tablescape that looks like a Million Bucks (But Costs under $100)

Trader Joe’s really is a special place. Not only do they have awesomely delicious food (have you tried their frozen flatbread pizzas?!), but they also carry a really nice selection of loose flowers and greenery at a great price.

For the wedding we hosted at our house last March, we used a variety of eucalyptus bunches from Trader Joe’s. They cost $2-4/bundle and we only needed 8 bundles for 30 feet of table space. There are a variety of types of eucalyptus, from the more rigid and upright spiral variety, to the loose and flowing silver dollar or seeded willow. You can use all one type or mix and match. We used a variety of whatever they had available. It is important to buy the eucalyptus as close to the reception time as possible to prevent it from drying out and looking and feeling crunchy.

The other element of this beautiful, simple, and inexpensive wedding table decor is votives. Mercury glass votives add timeless elegance and you cannot beat candlelight for a romantic atmosphere. Amazon wins with a beautiful selection of votives to meet a variety of budgets (see below).

When you are ready to prepare the tables:

  1. Make sure the table is clean and any tablecloths you plan to use are already on and smooth. We did not use a table cloth in this case.
  2. Lay out the eucalyptus loosely, mixing varieties as you go. Run the branches along farmhouse/rectangular tables lengthwise. If you have round tables, you could create a loose star shape, fanning the ends of each branch out from the center.
  3. Nestle the votives evenly in among the branches.
